Working Fire on Main Street

January 19, 2012 - 00:29 - The Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to 5769 Main Street for a Structure Fire. Rock Hall Police Department was on scene advised fire was a working alarm. Units arrived on scene heavy smoke and fire was visible mainly from the 2nd floor of "Dentist Office". All occupants of the building were evacuated safely. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshall's Office. Firefighters from Rock Hall, and mutual aid companies helped bring the fire under control within a 2 hour period at 01:08. Red Cross was called in to assist as well. Units cleared the scene at 03:46. Working Chicken House Fire in the 70-5

January 15, 2012 - 01:15 - Kent dispatched the Station for a Structure Fire reported fully involved at an address down a wooded lane on Tolchester Road. Paramedic 1-1 was the first to arrive to confirm the working fire with exposures to propane tanks and woods on fire. The structure was on the ground upon her arrival. Engine 72 arrived with Engine 73 beginning initial attack and coordinating water supply operations. Mostly overhaul operations were performed by all crews at hand, sifting through tin roof material taking care of hot spots. Tanker shuttles continued using an estimated 20,000 gallons of water or more. The situation was placed under control at 0229 hrs. Luckily, the house was emptied of chickens prior to the fire so no animals were harmed in the incident. The Maryland State Fire Marshals Office conducted the investigation. Chief 7 assumed command. Units cleared the call at 0553 hrs. Many thanks to all mutual aid companies who assisted.

ATV Accident in the 70-3

October 23, 2011 -12:18 - Kent dispatched Station 7 to an MVC involving a 4-wheeler on Piney Neck Road. The scene was luckily within good access to personnel. Two patients were identified. As Ambulance 71 treated the adult patient, Ambulance 7 treated a pediatric involved. The adult was flown to Shock Trauma by Trooper 6. Lieutenant 7-2 (F. Kelley) assumed command. Units cleared at 1314hrs.

Controlled Burn On Rock Hall Road

October 22, 2011 - 08:00 - Today, the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company held a controlled burn on Rock Hall Road. Station 7 and Station 5 (Betterton) used this large 3 story house to conduct a number training exercises with the accompany of 2 Howard County instructors. Thank you to all who participated!

Engine And Truck Assist To Chestertown

October 08, 2011 - 06:57 - Kent dispatched Station 7 to assist Chestertown with a Working Fire at 130 Speer Road. Engine 72 and Truck 7 both made the response with 11 personnel. Truck 7 arrived and was given the assignment to pull between Engine 68 and Rescue 6 on side Alpha and set the ladder up and start ventilation on the Alpha/Delta roof. Engine 72 was instructed to stage in the parking lot prior the scene and bring manpower to assist with salvage of the 1st floor. Serious MVC in Piney Neck

October 05, 2011 -19:52 - Kent dispatched Station 7 units to an motor vehicle collisions unknown on injuries in the area of Crosby Road at Edesville Road. Rescue Pumper 7 arrived to find a single vehicle into a pole with severe front end damage. A single patient was extracted and was then flown to Shock Trauma, Category B, Priority 1. Units cleared the scene at 2054hrs with a total of 14 personnel on the call. Deputy Chief 7 (T. White) had command.

National Fire Prevention Week (October 9th - 15th)

Fire Safety Checklist:

– Install and maintain a working smoke alarm outside of every sleep area. Remember to change the battery   at least once a year!

– Designate two escape routes from each bedroom and practice them regularly.

– Teach everyone the "Stop, Drop, and Roll" technique in case clothing catches on fire.

– Avoid storing old mattresses in the home or garage.

– Teach kids that matches, lighters and candles are tools, not toys. If you suspect that a child is playing        with fire, check under beds and in closets for telltale signs like burned matches. Matches and lighters   should be stored in a secure drawer or cabinet.

September 25, 2011 - The officers and members of the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company regrets to announce the passing of member "Pop" Stan Lewis. During Pop's time as a member of the company he served as Board of Director and Fire Police. Pop will be greatly missed.

Watermans Crab Feast: Cancelled

September 23, 2011 - Tropical Storm Lee left the entire Chesapeake Bay area with a mess. Locally, we have found a lot of debris washing up on our beaches. This debris has greatly effected the crab population. With that being said, we are sad to announce that we will no longer be holding the Watermans Crab Feast on October 8th. The crabs are just not available at this time. Thank you for your understanding.

URGENT MESSAGE REGARDING HURRICANE IRENE

August 26, 2011 - 12:30 - A Voluntary Evacuation for Rock Hall has been issued for people living in low lying areas and surroundings.

The Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company has been designated as the offiical shelter for Rock Hall during Hurricane Irene. The Firehouse will open approximately at 6:00PM Saturday, August 27.

It is the recommendation if you have a friend or relative who is located on higher ground you go there. If you have no such options, you can go to the Firehouse.

There will be food available at the Firehouse and pets are welcome but they must be in portable pet shelters.



Press Release: Hurricane Irene

August 25, 2011 - 19:00 - The Administrative and Chief Officers of the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company are closely monitoring the track and progress of Hurricane Irene. This is a dangerous storm and the potential track will impact the Rock Hall area. At this time, we are urging Rock Hall visitors and residents to check your emergency kits and stock up on essential supplies. The path of this storm will become more concrete within the next 12-24 hours. We will reevaluate the situation and meet with local government officials to see if any further actions are required.

This is what we are expecting at this time according to the track as of 5 PM EST: - Tropical Storm Force Winds will begin late Saturday Evening and they will continue well into Sunday. - Strongest winds will occur Sunday between Daybreak and 10am - Expecting 6" to 12" of rain - Storm surge is predicted to be 2' to 5' and this is ABOVE the increase being caused by the current Astronomical Tide Cycle.

Fire Showing On Rock Hall Road

August 21, 2011 -19:17 - Kent dispatched Station 7, Station 6, Station 5, Station 4 and Paramedic 1-1 for a Structure Fire located at 5912 Rock Hall Road. Engine 72 arrived on location with a 2 story single family dwelling fire showing Charlie/Delta side. Crews from Engine 72 where able to make quick work of the fire and contain it to the kitchen area. Station 6 units assisted with ventilation and checking for extension. Special thanks to Engine 5 (Betterton) for covering our first due while our units were busy on the fire. Rock Hall units cleared at 2357hrs with a total of 21 personnel on the call. Lieutenant 7-1 (M. Dowling) had Rock Hall Road Command.

Water Rescue On the Chesapeake Bay

August 08, 2011 - Kent dispatched Station 7, Station 8, Station 5, Station 3 and the Kent County Dive Team to a vessel in distress approximately three miles north of Rock Hall Harbor. Boat 7 and Boat 8 launch and rendezvous with the US Coast Guard and Department of Natural Resources Police and identify one patient suffering a medical emergency. The incident is placed under control at 1134hrs and is held to units on scene. The patient is taken ashore for evaluation and transported to Chester River Hospital.

Outside Fire On Allens Lane

July 17, 2011 -19:18 - Kent dispatched Station 7 to a reported outside fire on Allen's Lane just outside of Rock Hall. Engine 72 and Engine 73 arrived to find approximently 20' x 20' of brush involved that had extended into a towable trailer on the property. The situation was placed under control at 1958hrs. Captain 7 (B. Mitchell) had command. Units cleared the scene at 2020hrs with a total of 8 personnel on the call.

MVC on Route 20

July 12, 2011 -16:20 - Kent dispatched Station 7 and Kent EMS for the Motor Vehicle Collision unknown on Injuries on Route 20 in the area of the Double Woods. Deputy Chief 7 arrived with a two vehicle collision head on 1 vehicle being in the woods. After checking on patient status's Paramedic 1-1 requested Maryland State Police Aviation Category B Priority 2. One patient was flown to Shock Trauma and a second patient was transported to Chester River Hospital Center. Rock Hall units cleared at 1750hrs. Deputy Chief 7 (T. White) had Route 20 command.

Reported Boat Fire At Haven Harbour

July 01, 2011 -22:54 - Kent dispatched Station 7, Station 8, Station 5, and the Kent County Dive Team for a sailboat fire docked at Haven Harbour Marina. Engine 72 arrived and Captain 7 (B. Mitchell) assumed command. The vessel is found more than 300 feet down the dock. The vessel shore power connection was found smoking with no fire and was quickly mitigated. The situation was placed under control, holding to Station 7 units at 2303hrs. One patient was identified to have breathing difficulties due to inhalation and was treated and transported from the scene to Chester River Hospital Center. All units are cleared at 0033hrs.
